Demeter (Roman name Ceres), The Mother Goddess of
the Earth, Olympian goddess, she was the second daughter of Cronus and
Rhea, sister to Hestia, Hera,
Poseidon,
Hades, and Zeus.
She was the goddess of vegetation and agriculture. She had daughter Persephone,
whose legend tries to explain the change of seasons on the earth.
