Presentation in the Temple

Presentation in the Temple (Luke 2:22-39). Joseph and Mary brought the infant Jesus to the Temple to be 'consecrated to the Lord'. The law required of Jews that the firstborn be sacrificed to the Lord, children being redeemed by the payment of 5 shekels. The elderly prophet Simeon took infant Jesus in his arms and offered a blessing. He recognized Jesus as Israeli’s Messiah and Savior.
