Old Testament Notes

Jeroboam

Jeroboam was the first king of the Northern Kingdom of Israel. He was born to the window Zereda and as a young man served as the superintendent of forced laborers under king Solomon. His reign over the Northern Kingdom lasted twenty-one years.

See: Jean-Honoré Fragonard. Jeroboam Sacrificing to the Idols.
This painting depicts a scene from the Old Testament. A prophet from the tribe of Judah condemns king Jeroboam for worshipping idols and turning his back on God. When the king raises his hand to order the man’s arrest, it becomes withered and paralyzed.
