Flight into Egypt

Flight into Egypt is recorded by Matthew (2:13-15). After the birth of Jesus and homage paid to him by shepherds and the Magi, an angel came to Joseph, husband of the Virgin Mary, in a dream and ordered him "to take the young child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you; for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him." So Joseph got up took the baby and his mother by night and departed into Egypt, where they stayed till Herod's death. "This was to fulfill what the Lord had declared through the prophet: 'Out of Egypt I have called my son.' " (Matthew 2:13-15)
