Ancient Greek and Roman Myths Notes

Sibyl

Sibyl – the name of a priestess whose responsibility was to make known the oracles of Apollo. There were a great number of legends concerning Sibyl or Sibyls. In Christian tradition twelve Sibyls were accepted as prophetesses announcing the birth of the Holy Infant. Their names indicate the place of their origin; they usually hold a book, though each one may have her own symbols.
