Pygmalion was a king of Cyprus, who fell in love with an ivory
statue of a woman, some legend stated that he himself sculptured her, and
asked Aphrodite to send him a woman
like the statue. Aphrodite instead put life into the statute. The woman
was called Galatea. They married and had a daughter Paphos.
