Daphne, a Nymph, loved by Apollo.
Her name means laurel in Greek. There are several versions of her legend,
the most popular says, that Cupid, infuriated with
Apollo, shot his arrow, which made Apollo to fall in love with the first
met girl, who happened to be Daphne. Cupid shot another of his arrows at
Daphne, and she was repulsed with Apollo. She ran away, while he began
to chase her. In answer to her prayer gods turned her into a laurel tree.
Laurel is the tree of Apollo; he always wears a wreath of its leaves.
