Jens Thiis (1870-1942) was a Norwegian art historian, restorer and director of the Norwegian National Gallery (Norsk Nasjonalgalleriat) between 1908 and 1941, as well as being a close personal friend of Edvard Munch. This saw great potential in contemporary art and oversaw the purchase of many Impressionist and Post-Impressionist works, thus laying the foundation for the National Gallery's substantial collection
