Arthur Atherley (1772-1844) - barrister and British Member of Parliament for the Whig, and later the Liberal Parties. He represented Southampton, serving four terms between 1806 and 1835. He was educated at Eton, attended Cambridge, and was called to the Bar at Lincoln’s Inn London. Thomas Lawrence's 1791 portrait depicts him just after his graduation from Eton. Arthur Atherley was married to Lady Louisa Kerr, with whom he had eight children. He was also an original member of the Fox Club, the famous Whig-leaning London Gentlemen's Club.
