Raising of Lazarus
Raising of Lazarus. The miracle of the raising of Lazarus is cited
in the Gospel by St. John (11:1-44). Lazarus, a dweller of the village
of Bethany, fell ill and his sisters, Martha and Mary, pleaded Jesus to
heal their brother. They were far from Bethany at the moment and it took
some time for Jesus to arrive to their house. Unfortunately they
came four days after Lazarus had died. Jesus then had the stone of
Lazarus' tomb removed and cried in a loud voice: "Lazarus, come forth.
The dead man came out, his hands and feet bound with linen bandages, his
face wrapped in a cloth, and Jesus said: 'Loose him, and let him go.'"
(John 11-43-44).
