Lady at the Tea Table. The sitter is Mrs. Mary Dickinson Riddle Scott, the first cousin of the artist’s mother. The daughter of the sitter, Mrs. Annie Riddle Scott, presented the Cassatts with a precious Japanese tea set, (depicted in the front). In return for the gift, Mary Cassatt painted this portrait. Fortunately enough for the public, the sitter did not like the portrait and it remained with the artist until 1923 when Cassatt gave it to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY.
