Wilhelm Barth Biography

Wilhelm Barth, a German painter and graphic artist, was born in 1779. From 1796 through to 1803 he worked as an artist of the Royal porcelain manufactory in Berlin. From 1809 till 1815 Barth worked in Latvia, where he fulfilled more than 46 views of Riga and its suburbs. He came to St. Petersburg at the end of the 1810s and stayed there for several years, having fulfilled several series of views of the city.

Wilhelm Barth participated in the academic exhibitions in Berlin in 1800, 1804, 1830 and 1840.

Eduard Barth, son of the artist Wilhelm Barth, was born in 1802 in Berlin. He got his training from his father and came with him to St. Petersburg at the end of the 1810s, where he fulfilled views of the city in the style of his father.
