Dona Polyxena Spinola Guzmán de Laganés
was the daughter of a Genoese admiral and the wife of Spain's ambassador to Genoa. Her marriage took place in Madrid in 1628. Both her Italian father and her Spanish husband served official duties in the Netherlands, and her costume is northern European in style.
