Thomas Howard, 2nd Earl of Arundel and Surrey(1586-1646) English statesman and a connoisseur of fine arts. He held a high position at the court of James I and
Charles I, but is better known for his collection of fine art. He first invited Van Dyck to London in 1621 and urged the King to invite him again in 1632. He supported Van Dyck in London, who painted a lot of pictures of him and members of his family. See
