Semenov-Tien-Shansky, Peter Petrovich
(1827-1914), geographer, botanist, public and state figure, collector of old Holland paintings. He was the head of the Russian Geographical Society (since 1873) and Russian Entomological Society (since 1889). In 1856-57 researched Tien-Shan and was the first to give its scientific description. Organized a number of other expeditions to Central Asia. He was in charge of publishing of several scientific works on geographical description of Russia
