Pavlov, Ivan Petrovich
(1849-1939) Russian scientist, physiologist, born into the family of a village priest. He studied medicine in St. Petersburg, conducted research work in Germany. On his return to St. Petersburg became professor (1890) and then director of the Institute of Experimental Medicine (1913). Author of the theory of ‘conditioned’ or acquired reflexes. Nobel prize winner in 1904 for physiology and medicine
