Count Sergey Uvarov (1786-1855)
was in diplomatic service in 1806-1809, through the advantageous marriage to Countess Catherine Razumovskaya acquired wealth and connections. He was the Secretary of Education in 1834-1849, the President of the Academy of Science in 1818-1855. Uvarov was a well educated man, who took an interest in literature, he was a member of the literary society "Arzamas", was in correspondence with Goethe, M-me De Stael et al
