Ridolfo
Ghirlandaio was the son and pupil of a Florentine artist Domenico
Ghirlandaio. His style, though, wasn' modeled after his father's,
but after that of Raphael and
Leonardo
da Vinci. He was a friend of Raphael.
Ridolfo Ghirlandaio was mostly known as a portraitist. Portrait
of a Lady (1509) was instired by Raphael's Florentine portraits,
such as 'La Gravida'.
This painting came to the Medici collection as part of the dowry of Vittoria
della Rovere, the Duchess of Urbino. Both scenes with the episodes from
St. Zenobius life take place in the streets of Florence: on St.
Zenobius Raising a Boy from the Dead piazza of San Pier Maggiore
is depicted, on Conveyance of the Body
of St. Zenobius is Duomo and Baptistry. These two paintings
became the side panels for Annunciation by Albertinelli for the altar of
the Company of San Zanobi in the Duomo.
