François-Pascal-Simon Gérard. Portrait of the Painter Jean-Baptiste Isabey (1767-1855) with His Daughter.
Jean-Baptiste Isabey (1767-1855) French portrait painter and miniaturist, born in Nancy. Trained under Jacques-Louis David, he painted portraits of revolutionary nobles, and afterwards became court painter to Napoleon and the Bourbons. His son, Louis Gabriel Eugène (1804-86), was also an artist and painted landscapes, seascapes and genre pictures. Isabey's daughter would marry the painter Pierre Luc Charles Cicéri (1782-1868).
