Guizot, François Pierre Guillaume
(1787–1874) French historian and politician who advocated a constitutional monarchy, served as premier (1847–1848), and published several historical works. After the Revolution of 1848 and the fall of Louis-Philippe, he escaped to London. In November 1849, he returned to Paris and made efforts to rally the monarchists, but after the coup d’etat of 1851 gave himself up entirely to his historical publication
