Farinata degli Uberti, a Florentine nobleman, lived in Florence in the first half of the XIII century. He became the leader of the Florentine Ghibellines, the pro-imperial party. According to Dante, Uberti alone dissuaded the members of the Ghibelline coalition from destroying the city of Florence, which they had just captured.
