Louisine Elder Havemeyer was one of Mary’s best friends, they got acquainted in Paris in 1874, she was then Louisine Elder and became Mrs. Havemeyer in 1883. Mr. and Mrs. Havemeyer collected works of art, and Mary advised them in diverse matters. Mary Cassatt made her last trip to the USA in 1908 to visit Louisine, who had been widowed a year before. Mr. and Mrs. Havemeyer had collected a big collection of paintings, including Impressionists, which they donated to The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
