Grand Duchess Elena Pavlovna (1806-1873) - a daughter of the Duke of Wurttemberg, was born Frederica Charlotte Maria. After her marriage to the Grand Duke Mikhail Pavlovich (the younger son of Russian Emperor Paul I and brother to Alexander I and Nicholas I) she took the name of Elena Pavlovna. She was brought up and educated in Paris. After her marriage she became a patroness of several charity organizations and a prominent socialite, playing an important part in the process of the emancipation of Russian serfs
